Frequently Asked Questions

Is Studio 6 COVID-19 safe?
Studio 6 abides by a strict code of health and hygiene. You will be asked to use the provided hand sanitiser on entry. Please do not attend the studio if you have any symptoms or if you have had recent close contact to anyone who has. Please ensure you wear socks and bring a bath towel with you to minimise contact with equipment. All equipment will be sanitised using hospital grade disinfectant prior to and following your session. Session times will be staggered to minimise contact between clients and allow time for the studio to be cleaned.
Does Studio 6 provide online consultation?
Yes, online consultation is available. Studio 6 runs personalised, guided matwork pilates sessions in the comfort of your own home. Sessions run for 30 minutes and with a maximum of two participants. Online sessions are safe, hygienic, private and more affordable than studio sessions. You will be personally and individually taught, it's not watching online videos and trying to keep up! You will be personally guided in how to set up the required technology - it is as easy as opening a web browser on your phone, tablet or laptop. Don't worry if you're not familiar with technology, it is super easy!
What should I wear?
Comfortable, casual clothing that will not restrict your movements. It's a good idea to avoid clothing with hoods or tassels, as well as loose necklaces, bracelets or other jewellery that may become entangled in the equipment. Also, please refrain from wearing strong scents for the comfort of other clients. We don't wear shoes in the studio but socks are fine.
What should I bring with me to a Studio 6 Pilates session?
We encourage clients to bring along a bottle of water so you can keep properly hydrated. Other than that - just yourself!
How often should I come to Pilates?
That all depends on your level of motivation, your goals and what you can afford. Many clients come for one or two sessions per week but if you want to maximise the benefits of the Pilates Method you will need to practice at home as well. Steve will be happy to develop a home program for you.
Will Pilates help me lose weight?
Pilates is an enlivening workout that can help sustain energy levels throughout your day. However, it is not usually done as aerobic exercise.
  • Some people enjoy combining Pilates with aerobic/cardio vascular exercise in order to maximize their weight loss.
  • One of the best ways to look and feel thinner is to have beautiful posture. Pilates creates a leaner look by emphasizing both length and good alignment.
  • Pilates promotes deep and efficient respiration, which is essential for calorie burning and tissue regeneration.
  • Engaging in an exercise program, like Pilates, promotes self-esteem and heightened lifestyle consciousness. Both are associated with weight loss.
Why is your studio called "Studio 6"?
Studio 6 Pilates was named for the six principals of the Pilates Method: Concentration, Control, Centering, Precision, Flowing Movement, Breathing
Can I claim Pilates session on my private health insurance?
Some health funds will cover Pilates but it can depend on your level of cover and the qualifications of the teacher. Steve is a Level 4 Professional Practitioner which is the highest level of membership with the Australian Pilates Method Association (APMA) and he has a government accredited Diploma of Pilates Movement Therapy. Please check with your private health fund for more information.
Will Pilates help with my back pain?
The Pilates Method is excellent for managing and overcoming back pain. An effective studio Pilates program will work to strengthen the core muscles of the body which stabilise and support the spine. Steve, the founder of Studio 6 Pilates, was an IT professional suffering from back pain when he started doing Pilates. Steve found Pilates so effective in managing his back pain he became a teacher.

You will work at your own pace and Steve will guide you through a program individually tailored to meet your personal needs.
